What it is
Brass Golden Tara - Special S'Bowl Set is a ready-to-play singing bowl set (14 x 14cm): a bowl with the accessories you need to start, so you can play it the day it arrives.
The owl was the companion of Athena, goddess of wisdom, and a bird of night magic in British folklore.
Tara is a female bodhisattva of Tibetan Buddhism associated with compassion and protection.
From the maker: This Brass Golden Tara special singing bowl set makes a perfect Tibetan-style gift. Tara is a much-loved figure in Buddhist tradition, associated with compassion, and the set arrives in a nice padded box.
Materials and size
Size: approximately 14 x 14cm. Allow for small variations between batches.
Traditional uses
Singing bowls are connected with the Himalayan region, including Nepal, Tibet and northern India, where metal bowls have long been made by hand-hammering or casting. In meditation practice, a bowl is struck at the start and end of a sitting, and the fading tone is used as a point of focus. Traditional meanings are offered for interest and reflection, not as a health claim.
How to use it
Strike the side softly with the mallet, then slowly circle the rim with steady pressure until the bowl begins to sing.
Keep your fingers off the walls of the bowl, which mute the sound.
Rest the bowl on its cushion on a flat base or your open palm.
Gifting idea: a ready-to-play set is a thoughtful present for a yoga teacher or a friend starting meditation.
Display idea: between sessions, a bowl on its cushion makes a striking shelf or altar piece.
Session idea: strike once at the start of a meditation and let the tone fade completely before you begin.
Care
Wipe with a dry, smooth cloth after handling to remove fingerprints.
