Singing bowls are a beautiful and unique instrument that can bring a sense of peace and tranquility to those who use them. As you mentioned, they are a type of bell that is designed to be played by striking or rubbing the sides and rim of the bowl.To use a singing bowl, you will typically need a mallet or stick. The wooden end of the stick is used to make the bowl sing by striking it gently on the rim or side of the bowl.
You can also use the padded end of the stick to create a soft, mellow sound by rubbing it around the rim of the bowl. The set you mentioned includes not only the singing bowl and mallet, but also a ring pillow and carrying case. The ring pillow is typically used to stabilize the bowl during use, while the carrying case makes it easy to transport and store the bowl when it's not in use. While singing bowls can be a bit tricky to master at first, they can provide a wonderful way to relax and unwind. What it is
Lotus Flower Singing Bowl Set is a ready-to-play singing bowl set (9x5cm): a bowl with the accessories you need to start, so you can play it the day it arrives.
From the maker: Singing bowls are a beautiful and unique instrument that can bring a sense of peace and tranquility to those who use them. As you mentioned, they are a type of bell that is designed to be played by striking or rubbing the sides and rim of the bowl.To use a singing bowl, you will typically need a mallet or stick.
Materials and size
Size: approximately 9x5cm. Allow for small variations between batches.
Traditional uses
Singing bowls are tied to the Himalayan region, including Nepal, Tibet and northern India, where metal bowls have long been made by hand-hammering or casting. In meditation practice, a bowl is struck at the start and end of a sitting, and the fading tone is used as a point of focus. Traditional meanings are offered for interest and reflection, not as a health claim.
How to use it
Rest the bowl on its cushion on a flat surface or your open palm.
Strike the side gently with the mallet, then slowly circle the rim with steady pressure until the bowl begins to sing.
Keep your fingers off the walls of the bowl, which mute the sound.
Group idea: in sound baths, players space bowls of different sizes around the room for layered tones.
Practice tip: record yourself playing on your phone; it is the quickest way to hear whether your pressure is steady.
Neighbour tip: rim playing is quieter than striking if you live in a flat.
Care
Wipe with a dry, fine cloth after handling to remove fingerprints.
Who it suits
It suits beginners who want everything in one box. At £46.80 it's a statement piece, and it ships free.
