What is a singing bowl used for?
Singing bowls are customarily used in meditation, yoga and sound practice. The sustained tone is used as a point of focus and to mark the start and end of a session. We describe this as a practice, not a treatment.
How do you make a singing bowl sing?
Rest the bowl on a cushion or open palm, tap the side once, then run the mallet slowly around the outside of the rim with steady pressure. The tone builds after a few rotations.
What size singing bowl should I buy?
For a first bowl, 12–18cm is a good balance: easy to hold and play, with a full tone. Smaller bowls sound higher; larger bowls are deeper and sustain longer.
How do you clean a singing bowl?
Wipe it with a fine, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive metal polish, especially on painted or engraved bowls, and store it somewhere dry.
Why won't my singing bowl sing?
Usually the pressure or speed is uneven, or something is touching the bowl. Slow down, press more firmly, keep your fingers off the walls and make sure it sits freely on the cushion.

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after use; skin oils can mark the metal.
