Materials and size
Size: approximately 7 x 14 x 14cm, weighing about 475g. Allow for small variations between batches.
Traditional uses
Burning bundles of sacred herbs is rooted in the ceremonies of Indigenous peoples of the Americas; we encourage learning those origins respectfully. In modern practice smudging is used to clear a space, regularly when moving into a new home or after a difficult day. Rue (ruda) has its own long folk tradition in Latin America and the Mediterranean as a protective herb. These are traditions and beliefs, described for interest, not health or medical claims.
How to use it
Light the tip, let it catch for a few seconds, then blow out the flame.
Hold a heat-proof dish or abalone shell underneath to catch embers.
Walk the smoke around the space and open a window.
Extinguish fully by pressing into sand or a dish; never leave it smouldering.
Ritual idea: write your intention on a slip of paper, read it aloud, then light the candle or incense.
Moon idea: the new moon is the traditional time for beginnings and the full moon for gratitude and release.
Evening idea: light it as you switch off screens for the night, a simple cue to wind down.
Care
Keep it dry and in its wrapper until use.
Who it suits
A good choice for people moving into a new home.
