London's glow hides all but the brightest stars, so Londoners plan around the moon itself: a full moon rising over the Thames or from Primrose Hill needs no dark sky at all. For real darkness, the South Downs International Dark Sky Reserve is within easy reach. For a stargazer, moon-phase decor, zodiac pieces or a star-sign stone suit the long December nights.
