Dreamcatchers

Dreamcatchers: 3 items from £22.99 to £118.99. Dreamcatchers come from the Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) people, who hung a small woven hoop, the asabikeshiinh or 'spider', over a baby's cradle. In the traditional story, good dreams slip through the web and bad dreams are caught until morning light.

How to choose dreamcatchers

  • Choose by hoop size and feather length for the space.
  • Feathers and beads are decorative and delicate; hang out of reach of small children and pets.

Using and caring for them

  • Hang it above a bed, in a window or anywhere it can move gently in the air.
  • Keep it away from candles and heat sources: feathers and thread are flammable.
  • Mini dreamcatchers suit car mirrors, bags and party favours.
  • Dust gently with a hairdryer on a cool setting or a soft brush; do not wash.

The dreamcatcher spread far beyond its origins in the 1960s and 70s; many people now hang one as a reminder of restful nights, and learning the Ojibwe story is a respectful place to start. Traditions are described for interest; we make no health claims.

UK delivery £3.95, free over £40, 2–5 working days.
