What it is

Satya is the incense house of Shrinivas Sugandhalaya, founded in Bangalore in 1964 and famous for its Nag Champa; its sticks are hand-rolled in the masala style.

Materials and size
Size: approximately 12.5 x 22 x 8cm, weighing about 385g. Allow for small variations between batches.
Traditional uses
In India, hand-rolled masala sticks are made by coating a bamboo core with a paste of resins, herbs, flowers and wood powder, a craft passed down through families in Bangalore and Mysore. In Japan, the incense ceremony kōdō treats fragrance as an art: practitioners speak of ‘listening’ to incense rather than smelling it. These are traditions and beliefs, described for interest, not health or medical claims.
How to use it
Ventilate the room and never leave it unattended.
Light a single stick at the start of a reading, journalling session or meditation and stop when it burns out: a natural timer of 30–45 minutes.
Try one scent for a week before switching, so you learn to recognise it.
Keep incense well away from smoke alarms, curtains and bookshelves.
Journalling idea: note the date, the moon phase and what you wished for, and look back a month later.
Storage: keep spares somewhere cool and dark so colours and scents stay fresh.
Ritual idea: write your intention on a slip of paper, read it aloud, then light the candle or incense.
Care
Store sealed in a cool, dry rest to keep the fragrance fresh.
Who it suits
