The skull is the memento mori of Victorian and medieval art, a reminder to live fully, and a symbol of the ancestors at Samhain and the Day of the Dead. Black is the traditional colour of protection and of banishing what is unwanted. Styling: black looks dramatic on a gothic altar and crisp against white walls. It is made from glazed ceramic, so wipe it clean rather than scrubbing and handle it with care. From the maker: This matt black ceramic oil burner in the shape of a skull is sure to be a talking point in any home. Perfect for Halloween or for those who are looking for something different and unusual the burner features a deep bowl and can be used with both fragrance oils and wax melts. Size: approximately 10 x 10 x 13.5cm, weighing about 500g. Allow for small variations between batches. ## Traditions (belief, not health claims) Scenting a room with warmed oils has ancient roots: Egyptian, Greek and Roman homes burned perfumed oils in clay lamps. In modern home ritual, a favourite scent marks a change of mood, such as lighting the burner when work ends for the day. Traditional meanings are offered for interest and reflection, not as a health claim. ## How to use - Stand it on a heat-proof base; the dish gets hot. - Never leave a lit flame unattended, and keep it away from curtains, children and pets. - Fill the dish with water, then add a few drops of oil, or drop one wax melt in the dish without water. - Light a tealight underneath and never let the dish run dry. - Journalling idea: note the date, the moon phase and what you wished for, and look back a month later. - Storage: keep spares somewhere cool and dark so colours and scents stay fresh. - Ritual idea: write your intention on a slip of paper, read it aloud, then light the candle or incense. ## Care - Let it cool fully before cleaning. For wax, freeze the dish for ten minutes and the wax pops out. ## Policies - Delivery: UK delivery £3.95, free over £40, 2–5 working days.
