Lit and left to smoulder, it releases a steady fragrant smoke that fills a room. Cleansing candles are traditionally white and are lit after a clear-out, a house move or a difficult week. The waning moon, as the light shrinks, is the traditional time for cleansing and letting go. Many people open a window while a cleansing candle burns as a symbol of letting stale energy out. Palo santo, 'holy wood', is from a South American tree and has long been burned in Andean folk ceremony; it is traditionally used to clear a space. The fragrance is sweet, woody and slightly minty. From the maker: Palo Santo, coming from South America, is treasured for its spiritual qualities and sweet, sacred fragrance when burned. Sold as a display set of 12 packs, each containing 8 sticks. Size: approximately 14 x 13 x 7cm, weighing about 330g. Allow for small variations between batches. ## Traditions (belief, not health claims) In India, hand-rolled masala sticks are made by coating a bamboo core with a paste of resins, herbs, flowers and wood powder, a craft passed down through families in Bangalore and Mysore. In Japan, the incense ceremony kōdō treats fragrance as an art: practitioners speak of ‘listening’ to incense rather than smelling it. We share these as cultural traditions and personal beliefs only, never as health claims. ## How to use - For a cleansing ritual: many people open a window while a cleansing candle burns as a symbol of letting stale energy out. - Ventilate the room and never leave it unattended. - Light a single stick at the start of a reading, journalling session or meditation and stop when it burns out: a natural timer of 30–45 minutes. - Try one scent for a week before switching, so you learn to recognise it. - Keep incense well away from smoke alarms, curtains and bookshelves. - Ritual idea: write your intention on a slip of paper, read it aloud, then light the candle or incense. - Moon idea: the new moon is the traditional time for beginnings and the full moon for gratitude and release. - Evening idea: light it as you switch off screens for the night, a simple cue to wind down. ## Care - Store sealed in a cool, dry set to keep the fragrance fresh. ## Policies - Delivery: UK delivery £3.95, free over £40, 2–5 working days.
