In the Golden Dawn tradition used by the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, Taurus is linked with The Hierophant. Its three ten-day 'decans' map to the Five of Pentacles, Six of Pentacles and Seven of Pentacles, and as a earth sign it belongs to the suit of Pentacles.

## The Hierophant: the Taurus card

Keywords: tradition, teaching, belonging. Wisdom passed down. The Hierophant points to teachers, rituals and communities that hold you.

Reversed: Questioning convention. You may be ready to find your own way rather than follow the expected path.

Why Taurus? Golden Dawn writers matched each major card to a sign by Hebrew letter, and The Hierophant fell to Taurus. [Full The Hierophant meaning](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/hierophant).

## The Taurus decans in the minor arcana

The Golden Dawn split each sign into three ten-day decans and gave each a numbered minor card. For Taurus they run in order through the sign's dates:

### First decan: Five of Pentacles

Challenge and change · earth. A test in home, work, money and the body. Conflict or loss asks what truly matters to you. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/five-of-pentacles).

### Second decan: Six of Pentacles

Harmony and generosity · earth. Flow returns to home, work, money and the body. Give, receive and remember sweeter days. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/six-of-pentacles).

### Third decan: Seven of Pentacles

Reflection and perseverance · earth. Hold your ground in home, work, money and the body. Assess your options and stay true. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/seven-of-pentacles).

## The suit of Pentacles

Taurus is a earth sign, and earth belongs to the suit of Pentacles in most decks. When Pentacles cards dominate a Taurus reading, tradition reads it as the sign's own energy speaking.

## A three-card Taurus spread

Shuffle, draw three cards and read them as a short story. Tarot is used here for reflection, not prediction.

- Card 1, The Hierophant's question: where in my life am I being asked to tradition?
- Card 2: what is helping me right now?
- Card 3: one small step for this Taurus season.
