In the Golden Dawn tradition used by the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, Capricorn is linked with The Devil. Its three ten-day 'decans' map to the Two of Pentacles, Three of Pentacles and Four of Pentacles, and as a earth sign it belongs to the suit of Pentacles.

## The Devil: the Capricorn card

Keywords: attachment, temptation, shadow. Chains that could be lifted off. The Devil shows what binds you so you can see it plainly.

Reversed: Breaking free. You are recognising a pattern and loosening its hold.

Why Capricorn? The card's themes echo the sign's ambitious nature. [Full The Devil meaning](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/devil).

## The Capricorn decans in the minor arcana

The Golden Dawn split each sign into three ten-day decans and gave each a numbered minor card. For Capricorn they run in order through the sign's dates:

### First decan: Two of Pentacles

Choice and balance · earth. Two paths or two people in home, work, money and the body. Weigh them, or bring them into partnership. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/two-of-pentacles).

### Second decan: Three of Pentacles

Growth and collaboration · earth. First fruits in home, work, money and the body. Share the work and celebrate early progress together. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/three-of-pentacles).

### Third decan: Four of Pentacles

Stability and rest · earth. A firm foundation in home, work, money and the body. Pause, consolidate and enjoy what you have built. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/four-of-pentacles).

## The suit of Pentacles

Capricorn is a earth sign, and earth belongs to the suit of Pentacles in most decks. When Pentacles cards dominate a Capricorn reading, tradition reads it as the sign's own energy speaking.

## A three-card Capricorn spread

Shuffle, draw three cards and read them as a short story. Tarot is used here for reflection, not prediction.

- Card 1, The Devil's question: where in my life am I being asked to attachment?
- Card 2: what is helping me right now?
- Card 3: one small step for this Capricorn season.
