In the Golden Dawn tradition used by the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, Cancer is linked with The Chariot. Its three ten-day 'decans' map to the Two of Cups, Three of Cups and Four of Cups, and as a water sign it belongs to the suit of Cups.

## The Chariot: the Cancer card

Keywords: willpower, momentum, victory. Hold the reins of opposing forces and drive forward. Determination carries you through.

Reversed: Lost direction or forcing things. Pause to steer before you push harder.

Why Cancer? Golden Dawn writers matched each major card to a sign by Hebrew letter, and The Chariot fell to Cancer. [Full The Chariot meaning](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/chariot).

## The Cancer decans in the minor arcana

The Golden Dawn split each sign into three ten-day decans and gave each a numbered minor card. For Cancer they run in order through the sign's dates:

### First decan: Two of Cups

Choice and balance · water. Two paths or two people in feelings, love and intuition. Weigh them, or bring them into partnership. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/two-of-cups).

### Second decan: Three of Cups

Growth and collaboration · water. First fruits in feelings, love and intuition. Share the work and celebrate early progress together. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/three-of-cups).

### Third decan: Four of Cups

Stability and rest · water. A firm foundation in feelings, love and intuition. Pause, consolidate and enjoy what you have built. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/four-of-cups).

## The suit of Cups

Cancer is a water sign, and water belongs to the suit of Cups in most decks. When Cups cards dominate a Cancer reading, tradition reads it as the sign's own energy speaking.

## A three-card Cancer spread

Shuffle, draw three cards and read them as a short story. Tarot is used here for reflection, not prediction.

- Card 1, The Chariot's question: where in my life am I being asked to willpower?
- Card 2: what is helping me right now?
- Card 3: one small step for this Cancer season.
