In the Golden Dawn tradition used by the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, Aries is linked with The Emperor. Its three ten-day 'decans' map to the Two of Wands, Three of Wands and Four of Wands, and as a fire sign it belongs to the suit of Wands.

## The Emperor: the Aries card

Keywords: structure, authority, stability. Build the foundations. The Emperor brings order, boundaries and the steady hand that protects what matters.

Reversed: Rigidity or control. Rules may have outgrown their purpose; strength can soften without weakening.

Why Aries? Golden Dawn writers matched each major card to a sign by Hebrew letter, and The Emperor fell to Aries. [Full The Emperor meaning](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/emperor).

## The Aries decans in the minor arcana

The Golden Dawn split each sign into three ten-day decans and gave each a numbered minor card. For Aries they run in order through the sign's dates:

### First decan: Two of Wands

Choice and balance · fire. Two paths or two people in passion, drive and creative fire. Weigh them, or bring them into partnership. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/two-of-wands).

### Second decan: Three of Wands

Growth and collaboration · fire. First fruits in passion, drive and creative fire. Share the work and celebrate early progress together. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/three-of-wands).

### Third decan: Four of Wands

Stability and rest · fire. A firm foundation in passion, drive and creative fire. Pause, consolidate and enjoy what you have built. [Read more](https://www.starseeduk.co.uk/learn/tarot/four-of-wands).

## The suit of Wands

Aries is a fire sign, and fire belongs to the suit of Wands in most decks. When Wands cards dominate a Aries reading, tradition reads it as the sign's own energy speaking.

## A three-card Aries spread

Shuffle, draw three cards and read them as a short story. Tarot is used here for reflection, not prediction.

- Card 1, The Emperor's question: where in my life am I being asked to structure?
- Card 2: what is helping me right now?
- Card 3: one small step for this Aries season.
